The Labour Court recommended that Irish Ferries Limited pay the claimants two days’ pay at Christmas in full and final settlement of a dispute over changed crew changeover times. The recommendation was signed on 23 June 2003. The Seamen’s Union of Ireland had sought one week’s pay after a proposed change moved crew changeovers from Thursday morning to Wednesday evening. Irish Ferries said the slot-time change was outside its control and part of the demands of seafaring. The Court limited its recommendation to the particular changes in the proposal, noting that normal slot changes and crew changeovers were part of seafaring requirements.
