Labour Court recommends 31 March 2003 expiry for construction pay agreement

The Labour Court recommended that the Construction Industry Federation and The Construction Industry Group Of Unions accept 31 March 2003 as the expiry date of their pay agreement. The recommendation was signed on 19 June 2003. The unions said the agreement expired on 31 March, so the first phase of Sustaining Progress was due from 1 April. Management argued that it expired on 30 June and the first phase was due from 1 July. The Court said the agreement did not explicitly cover its expiry date and considered the unions’ position more reasonable.
