Labour Court recommends redundancy payment for five Noonan Services workers

The Labour Court recommended that Noonan Services Limited pay five workers made redundant after the Aventis Pharmaceutical factory in Nenagh closed a sum equivalent to the rebate applicable to each worker’s redundancy payment. The recommendation was signed on 16 June 2003. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought enhanced redundancy payments above statutory entitlements. It said other Aventis employees had been offered six weeks’ pay per year of service plus statutory entitlements. Noonan Services opposed the claim, citing the financial impact and the cost to the company and industry. The Court noted that many of the workers had lengthy service and no alternative employment opportunities. It recommended the payment in light of increased statutory redundancy payments.
