Labour Court rejects Wessel Cable summer bonus claim

The Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for a summer bonus for seven clerical and supervisory workers at Wessel Cable Limited. The recommendation was signed on 26 May 2003. The union had first sought a one-week bonus in 1995. Wessel Cable offered to convert three additional long-service holiday days into holiday pay, but the union said it would accept five days’ holiday payment and the company rejected that proposal. The Court said different agreements had created separate packages for worker groups and found no reason to change its 1995 findings.
