In 2003, the Labour Court recommended €1,000 in full and final settlement of a kitchen worker’s constructive dismissal claim against Mary Hayes. The recommendation was dated 15 May 2003. The worker, employed at a small business in Croom, Co Limerick, said she left after verbal abuse and mistreatment by a colleague. Mary Hayes said management had not received a complaint at the time, acted when it learned of the problem, and that the worker left voluntarily without notice. The Court noted that the worker had left without notifying her employer of her difficulties. It also took account of the employer’s admission of liability, apology and offer of compensation, and recommended the €1,000 settlement.
