In 2003, the Labour Court recommended changes to Aer Rianta's voluntary redundancy terms after a dispute with the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and the Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union. It recommended restoring travel concession entitlement for workers who retired aged 46 to 49 once they became eligible for a deferred pension. For the relevant job sharers and staff working reduced hours, it recommended counting each year as a full year of service and basing salary on normal pay at the date of redundancy. The Court also recommended full consultation with the unions on future redundancy packages, finding that launching the plan without consultation was not in the spirit of partnership. The recommendation was dated 7 May 2003.
