The Labour Court recommended that Chubb Ireland Limited pay employees still in employment the full arrears on a 2% increase for 1 April to 31 October 2001, by 1 June 2003. The Court issued its recommendation on 23 April 2003. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union argued the retrospective payment would not threaten jobs or competitiveness and said the company had not provided documentary evidence of its finances. Chubb said staff costs were about 80% of turnover, the payment would cost around €80,000 and it faced competition and contract losses.
