In 2003, the Labour Court recommended that North Eastern Health Board grant a worker represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union a further 10 weeks' sick pay. The recommendation was dated 23 April 2003. The union had sought an extension of sick pay or paid leave for a 22-week period, alleging the absence followed workplace bullying and delays in management's investigation. Management denied responsibility and said the worker had declined alternative work. The Court cited a ten-week period without a suitable alternative position after the worker was certified fit to return, along with a delay in processing her status as a permanent employee.
