The Labour Court recommended that New Era Packaging recognise the Technical, Engineering And Electrical Union for normal industrial relations purposes for two members in the maintenance department. It issued the recommendation on 17 April 2003. New Era Packaging relied on its single-union agreement with the Graphical Paper and Media Union and said recognising another union could unsettle workplace relations. The Court noted that the agreement did not cover this staff category, the existing union did not object and the Irish Congress of Trade Unions confirmed the claim complied with its rules.
