Labour Court recommends renewed talks on Fruit of the Loom hours dispute

The Labour Court recommended that Fruit Of The Loom and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union resume negotiations over proposed changes to knitting department workers’ hours. The recommendation was dated 14 April 2003. The proposed move to a Ballymacarry site would change the workers’ rota to five night shifts, replacing four weekday nights and a Saturday morning shift. The Court said the parties had no common ground for a definitive recommendation and urged them to use proposals developed at conciliation as a basis for adjustments acceptable to affected employees.
