In 2003, the Labour Court did not recommend that the Office Of Public Works (OPW) concede the Amalgamated Engineering And Electrical Union’s claim for a higher allowance for 10 plumbers handling untreated sewerage. The plumbers received €2.54 for each day they performed the duty; the union sought €6.35 per day. The Court said an earlier case cited by the union had a different background and noted that the claim was prohibited under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. The recommendation was dated 13 March 2003.
