In 2003, the Labour Court did not recommend that Smurfit Web Press grant five extra annual holiday days to nine employees. They had 21 days, while relevant former VLM Ltd employees retained 26 days. The Graphical Paper & Media Union argued the workers were interchangeable with staff receiving 26 days. The Court said the former VLM Ltd employees retained personal contractual terms after the transfer, which did not give other employees a right to the same entitlement. The recommendation was dated 7 March 2003.
