The Labour Court recommended that Glanmire Industries Cork accept a reduction of one daily break, rather than the two breaks it had proposed cutting. It also recommended that employees accept management’s six-month phasing of the final pay increase. The recommendation was signed on 27 February 2003. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought to retain the breaks and have the final pay phase after four months. The company cited the physical and repetitive nature of the work and said its offer would cost around €200,000 per year.
