The Labour Court recommended that Crown Equipment and the Amicus-Amalgamated Engineering And Electrical Union discuss a compensation package for 10 employees affected by the closure of a wheel machine operation. The recommendation was signed on 21 February 2003. Crown Equipment offered to redeploy the workers without loss of pay. The union sought to retain their existing shift pattern, including through a compromise arrangement. The Court did not support continuing a working arrangement it considered economically unviable, but recognised the loss to employees and recommended talks on compensation appropriate to the circumstances.
