The Labour Court recommended that Associated Newspapers (Ireland) T/A Ireland On Sunday consult staff collectively by department if a similar Christmas holiday arrangement arose again. The dispute concerned public holiday working arrangements over Christmas and New Year 2002/2003. The National Union Of Journalists (Nuj), representing 27 journalists and photographers, said staff had not been consulted collectively. The company said it had spoken with staff individually and accommodated them. The Court treated the dispute as one about consultation procedures, rather than deciding statutory annual leave or public holiday entitlements. The recommendation was signed on 6 February 2003.
