The Labour Court recommended on 6 November 2002 that Trinity College not introduce a “dirty money” allowance for ground staff, whose duties it considered normal cleaning work. The Court also recommended that the college provide additional equipment or safety gear if needed for specific cleaning tasks. Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought the allowance for 14 ground staff, citing payments to staff doing similar work at University College Dublin. The Court said the duties did not fall within the range of work that normally attracted the payment within Trinity College.
