The Labour Court recommended on 4 November 2002 that Furniture Direct offer a worker an ex-gratia payment of €200 in full and final settlement of claims arising from the end of his employment. The worker, a truck driver on a Fás back-to-work scheme, said his contract ended without written or verbal warning and that he suffered financial loss. The company said it dismissed him after he failed to report for work and did not improve his attendance.
