The Labour Court recommended that Cappagh Orthopaedic Hospital and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union clarify which specialist duties qualify for an 8% allowance and apply the agreed practice consistently across the sector. The Court did not recommend extending the allowance to porters carrying bleeps or ward domestics handling clinical waste. For weekend cleaning and catering duties, the Court recommended that the parties resume discussions and seek advice from an appropriate agency. The recommendation was signed on 4 November 2002.
