The Labour Court recommended that Teagasc staff accept proposals for additional evening work on its Opportunities Programme, with the union and management to agree a formula if workloads significantly exceed about six extra nights. The recommendation was signed on 11 October 2002. The Court did not recommend increasing current rates for work outside normal hours. It recommended that the Certificate in Farming rate of £21 awarded in 1999 rise by relevant Consumer Price Index increases. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had raised concerns that some staff could work many more extra nights than Teagasc’s estimate.
