In 2002, the Labour Court did not recommend a €5,000 finishing bonus per worker at the Wyeth Construction site in Clondalkin. The Construction Group Of Unions sought the payment for appropriate workers; the Construction Industry Federation (Cif) said contractors could not afford it. The claim involved an estimated 2,000 workers.
In its recommendation dated 8 October 2002, the Court said it could not accept that established criteria justified the bonus and found such payments rare in the construction industry. It endorsed seeking industry guidelines through the NJIC on when claims of this kind could be processed.
