In 2002, the Labour Court did not recommend the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union’s claim for eight additional ward attendants at St Peter’s Centre in Castlepollard. The Midland Health Board said care assistants’ duties included household work and that it had already added 3.5 ward attendants. The Court said the Board should not be expected to give up the flexibility of combining duties. It added that household work assigned to care assistants should not impair their primary role in looking after clients. The recommendation was dated 3 October 2002.
