In 2002, the Labour Court recommended that Rennicks Plastics Limited pay €10,000 to a worker who had resigned shortly before the company announced its factory closure. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought her inclusion in the redundancy terms.
The recommended ex-gratia payment was in full and final settlement of all claims. The Court also recommended raising the severance ceiling to 15 months and lump sums for eligible staff with under two years' service, while declining to increase the offered redundancy terms. The recommendation was signed on 25 September 2002.
