The Labour Court recommended deferring a dispute between Arcon Mines and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union over pay, annual and paternity leave, and the employee assistance programme until January 2003. The recommendation was dated 16 September 2002. The union sought improved pay and leave terms and an externally provided employee assistance programme. Arcon Mines said it could not afford the proposed increases. The Court cited the company's losses and zinc prices, recommended further discussions in January, and said either party could seek a definitive recommendation from 1 February 2003 if the issues remained unresolved.
