The Labour Court did not recommend compensation for euro-changeover work at Iarnrod Eireann, rejecting claims by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, the Transport Salaried Staffs' Association and the National Bus and Rail Union. The recommendation was dated 13 September 2002. The unions sought lump sum payments, arguing the changeover created additional work. Iarnrod Eireann said staff training took place during normal rostered hours. The Court said the circumstances differed from those at other CIE companies, where qualified employees received an allowance after training outside working hours.
