In 2002, the Labour Court recommended phased increases towards Health Board rates for 58 workers at St Francis Private Hospital after the union sought pay parity. The hospital argued that it could not afford parity and said it could threaten its viability. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said workers performed duties comparable to those in other hospitals. The Court said current rates were seriously out of line with comparable employments and recommended paying half the difference from the first Health Board scale point on acceptance, with the remainder after 12 months. It recommended a later meeting on full implementation and incremental progression. The recommendation was dated 30 July 2002.
