The Labour Court recommended resolving the University Of Limerick and Amicus Manufacturing, Science, Finance dispute over Senior Lecturer promotions on the basis of the university’s offer at conciliation. The recommendation was dated 23 July 2002. The union had sought 59 further internal promotion posts, alleging the university breached a 2000 agreement. The university denied a breach and said it had offered 10 promotion opportunities in each of 2002 and 2003. The Court found the parties had understood the agreement differently and that both shared responsibility for the misunderstanding. It said the posts had been filled and could not be reversed, while creating many additional posts would be impractical.
