The Labour Court recommended that Tyco Electronics Limited and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union agree a structured Saturday overtime arrangement, with an equitable roster. Its recommendation was dated 22 July 2002. The Court recommended that any compensation be calculated by comparing overtime earnings in the 12 months after the new arrangement began with the preceding 12 months. Compensation, if due, would be twice the loss and paid in two equal instalments, nine months apart. The union said Saturday overtime had been available for more than 20 years and sought restoration or compensation for affected workers. The company cited financial and operational pressures.
