In 2002, the Labour Court recommended increasing an offer to four part-time workers at Clerys And Company (1941) PLC from £1,000 to €3,000 each in a pension dispute. The recommendation, dated 23 July 2002, named the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union as the union party. Each claimant had more than 20 years’ service; one had retired. The union sought backfunding of pension contributions so the workers could receive a reasonable pension, while the company cited the cost. The Court said its recommendation reflected the circumstances of these employees and was not intended to set a broader precedent.
