The Labour Court recommended that Superquinn pay an additional €5,000 into a social fund following a major refit at its Ballinteer store. The recommendation was signed on 2 July 2002. Mandate brought the claim on behalf of about 320 workers, seeking €200 each and a day’s holiday for each full month of inconvenience. Superquinn said it had tried to minimise disruption and had held a staff party costing about €8,000. The Court said the scale of the work warranted a goodwill payment beyond the party.
