The Labour Court recommended that Iarnrod Eireann (Network Catering) and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union hold detailed talks about the company’s difficulties. Its recommendation was signed on 1 July 2002. If the parties agreed cost-offsetting measures, the first phase of an earlier pay proposal should be implemented as an interim increase, with three months’ retrospective pay from the date of agreement or implementation. After 12 months, the company and union should review the measures; if they had been achieved, the second phase should be paid. The Court said unresolved disagreement could be referred back to it.
