Labour Court recommends redundancy terms for 50 workers at Kells plant

The Labour Court recommended on 16 May 2002 that Complex Tooling And Moulding Limited pay workers at its Kells plant three weeks’ pay per year of service, inclusive of statutory redundancy payments. The recommendation was conditional on the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union cooperating with an orderly shutdown. The company had announced that the plant would close at the end of June, citing falling demand. It said its financial position allowed it to pay only statutory redundancy, with any surplus distributed after liabilities were cleared. The union sought three weeks’ pay per service year in addition to statutory entitlement.
