The Labour Court recommended on 14 May 2002 that the Irish Rugby Football Union pay a former worker an ex-gratia lump sum of €230 in full and final settlement of his claim. The worker, identified in the decision as A. Worker, had sought compensation for loss of earnings and unfair dismissal, alleging age discrimination. The Court said the worker had long and satisfactory service as a stilesperson and that the way the retirement-age decision was implemented did not give due recognition to that service. The IRFU had told the Court it would not attend the hearing, but had sent a letter explaining its position.
