The Labour Court recommended on 13 May 2002 that The Jewish Home Of Ireland and the Irish Nurses Organisation discuss whether the cost of aligning nurses’ pay and conditions with Health Board nurses could be met in whole or in part. The union was to first consider the home’s accounts, and the parties were also to consider the outcome of discussions between the home and the Health Board. If the parties did not reach agreement within three months, the matter could be referred back to the Court for a definitive recommendation. The home said it could not afford public-sector rates and estimated the claim could cost about €132,633.
