In 2002, the Labour Court recommended that Irish Ferries and Seamen's Union Of Ireland resolve a leave dispute by accepting 14 roster periods of annual leave a year, equivalent to 28 days, for eight workers transferred to the DublinSwift service. The recommendation was dated 8 April 2002. The workers claimed they should retain 43 days' leave from their previous roles; Irish Ferries said the new arrangement provided 28 days. The Court found no formal agreement to retain the previous entitlement and recommended the company buy out the difference from the old arrangements at 3.5 times the annual loss, in the exceptional circumstances of the case.
Labour Court recommends 28 days’ leave and buy-out formula for Irish Ferries workers
