The Labour Court recommended a transparent annual assessment system and changes to craft and multi-skilled pay at Sola Adc Lenses, which employed about 400 people at its Wexford plant. The recommendation was signed on 25 March 2002. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union sought service-based pay scales. The company’s final offer set basic pay at €27,722 for craft workers and €29,068 for multi-skilled workers; the union sought scales of €27,934 to €33,013 and €34,283 to €39,362 respectively. The Court recommended advance assessment criteria, annual reviews and an internal appeal process. It also recommended an extra €1,300 at each multi-skilled pay-band point beyond the company’s offer, and review of the system after three years.
