In 2002, the Labour Court recommended that Kerry Agribusiness and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union negotiate changes to the company’s restructuring proposals. Talks were to begin within three weeks of acceptance and conclude within a further three months, unless the parties agreed to extend that period. Unresolved issues could be referred back to the Court. The Court said it could not recommend the union’s claim for a straight basic-pay increase because it was precluded by the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. The recommendation was dated 11 March 2002.
