In 2002, the Labour Court said it could not recommend a meal allowance for 12 Senior General Services Supervisors at Limerick County Council. Its recommendation, dated 7 March 2002, found that the terms of a 1997 agreement did not allow the claim to be revived. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union cited increased on-call duties, wider work coverage and a lack of canteen facilities. The council said the union had withdrawn the claim under the earlier agreement and that the existing eating-on-site allowance was appropriate.
