In 2002, the Labour Court recommended that Cork City Council (Cork Corporation) increase compensation for ending a long-standing Saturday premium at the Kinsale Road landfill site to two and a half years’ annual loss. It also recommended that workers could choose a lump sum or keep the payment pensionable for that period. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had also challenged a proposed reduction in working hours. The Court said the workers should benefit if compensation was agreed nationally and recommended accepting the council’s offer to compensate reductions up to the 48-hour legal limit. The recommendation was signed on 11 March 2002.
