In 2002, the Labour Court recommended that Unifi Textured Yarns Europe Limited remove a letter of comfort about transfers between its plants. It also recommended a union-management review after 12 months to check for adverse effects. The recommendation was signed on 4 March 2002. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union opposed removing the letter, which had said permanent employees would not be transferred against their wishes. The Court said the reason for the letter no longer applied after Plant 2 adopted a 12-hour shift system.
