Labour Court recommends South West Area Health Board concede orthodontists' pay claim

In 2002, the Labour Court recommended that South West Area Health Board concede the Irish Dental Association (Ida)'s claim for pay increases for four orthodontists. The recommendation was dated 26 February 2002. The Court said the increases applied generally to comparable grades across the health service and saw no justifiable reason they should not apply to the claimants. The association said the orthodontists had received no increases under national pay agreements or incremental increases. Management argued that their personal pay rates had been agreed in 1998 and said it had offered relevant cost-of-living increases if the offer was accepted.
