Labour Court recommends benefit talks for UDV temporary workers and backs warehouse CCTV

The Labour Court recommended discussions on sick pay, pension access and compassionate leave for long-term temporary workers at Udv Operations Ireland Limited, but did not recommend permanent status for 16 workers. It also found the company’s proposed warehouse CCTV installation reasonable. The recommendation was dated 14 February 2002. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union had sought permanent status or additional benefits and opposed the cameras over concerns they could be used to monitor staff. The Court said the company had acted in line with its agreements and relied on assurances that the cameras would be used for security, not performance monitoring. It did not recommend overtime payments in holiday pay or an annual bonus, which it said were prohibited cost-increasing claims under the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness.
