The Labour Court recommended that St Luke’s Home Mahon Cork and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union jointly establish the correct classification and corresponding Health Board rate for the home’s care assistants. The recommendation was signed on 1 February 2002. The union sought the Group 5 non-nursing salary scale for care assistants who were paid at the Group 1 rate. The Court said the parties should establish the classification and rate with the Southern Health Board; if they could not then agree, the matter could return to the Court.
