In 2002, the Labour Court recommended against an allowance claim for 33 Teagasc Grade 3 workers, finding it breached the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. The recommendation was dated 3 January 2002. The Irish Municipal, Public And Civil Trade Union sought an allowance similar to those paid to Chief Agricultural Officers and College Principals, citing increased responsibilities. Teagasc argued the claim was cost-increasing and that the workers’ posts had been reviewed in 1996. The Court also expressed concern that lengthy discussions had appeared to indicate that options might be available to facilitate the claim.
