Labour Court recommends experience be considered for Dundalk council casual jobs

The Labour Court recommended that Dundalk Urban District Council and the Amalgamated Transport and General Workers’ Union agree an arrangement for selecting casual general operatives. The recommendation, dated 1 October 2001, said management should give due consideration to applicants with previous Council work experience. The union sought priority for the most senior suitable applicants and for former casual workers, as well as a panel for long-term temporary employees. The Council said appointments should be based on suitability, including previous work experience, and that keeping temporary panels for years was not feasible. The recommendation covered selection for casual general operative work only; transfer to permanent posts was not before the Court.
