The Labour Court recommended on 20 July 2001 that Glanbia and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (SIPTU) discuss a one-off lump sum for three regional sales managers affected by a new sales structure. The Court accepted that the proposed posts would reduce their status, but not their pay or employment conditions. SIPTU had sought to preserve the managers' status or offer redundancy terms, and argued they should receive compensation if their roles changed. Glanbia said their pay and conditions would remain unchanged and the restructuring was needed to meet business demands. If the parties could not agree a payment, the matter could return to the Court.
