Labour Court recommends interim 33.5% increase in rail staff basic rates

In 2001, the Labour Court recommended acceptance of an interim proposal put forward by Iarnroid Eireann, pending agreement on wider changes and detailed rosters. The recommendation was dated 15 June 2001. The proposal covered staff represented by the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union (NBRU) and included an immediate 33.5% increase in basic rates for the grades concerned, conditional on an overall agreement. In return, the company would be able to use contractors for renewals, refurbishment and infrastructure installation, while existing work patterns continued. Management and staff representatives were to discuss rosters, with talks due to finish by 31 July 2001.
