In 2001, the Labour Court did not recommend concession of a pay-parity claim by Services Industrial Professional Technical Union and National Bus & Rail Union on behalf of intercity locomotive drivers at Iarnrod Eireann. The unions compared intercity and DART drivers' pay and hours; management said the New Deal agreed in January 2000 should be honoured. The Court said the DART agreement had no precedent value and recommended using the existing monitoring process to review contract hours no earlier than January 2002. The recommendation was signed on 10 July 2001.
