In 2001, the Labour Court rejected the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union, Irish Municipal, Public and Civil Trade Union, INO and MLSA claim for a loyalty or transfer bonus from Portinuncula Hospital. It recommended that staff accept the Congregation's legacy offer in settlement of the claim and cooperate with the transfer to the Western Health Board. The unions said staff loyalty, work and fundraising had helped make the hospital saleable. Portinuncula Hospital said the Congregation intended the legacy for staff development. The Court recommended that the Partnership Forum decide how the legacy would be distributed. The recommendation was signed on 29 June 2001.
