In 2001, the Labour Court did not recommend upgrading 17 Fás Senior Storepersons from Grade 10 to Grade 9. The Services Industrial Professional Technical Union said their duties were comparable to those of Grade 9 Buyers at head office and sought an independent assessment after a new purchasing system was introduced. Fás argued the jobs differed in responsibilities and the cost of errors, and that the claim was precluded by the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness. The Court found no basis to concede the claim and said it was precluded under that programme. Its recommendation was signed on 22 June 2001.
