In 2001, the Labour Court recommended that Aer Lingus and the Services Industrial Professional Technical Union accept the company’s proposal to bridge a productivity savings gap for 130 ground operations staff at Shannon Airport. The union said its proposed measures could save 23.2 person-years. The Court said the savings identified were insufficient for payments comparable with those in Dublin and Cork, and recommended accepting the company proposal, subject to acceptance of LCR16806 and implementation of identified savings. LCR16806 separately recommended £3,000 per worker for eliminating porterage; workers had not yet voted on it. The recommendation was dated 19 June 2001.
